My sophomore year Innovative Design team saw an unmet need: deaf drivers cannot hear road noises essential to clear communication between vehicles, such as sirens or horns. This need is nearly unaddressed by the US government, and accommodations for individuals with impaired hearing are few and far between.

In order to address this unmet need, our team created a self-contained road noise detector capable of distinguishing between honks and sirens using an Arduino Uno and additional 3rd Party modules.

Sounds travel in digital format from the microphone to the audio analysis module, through the arduino with processing code, and out to the screen on the driver's dash.
