Using my musical giftings to serve the Lord is one of the biggest parts of my life. I've played in a variety of styles over the course of high school and my time at Wheaton College. To me, the most delightful part of music is the opportunity to improvise and build a sonic landscape on top of someone else's composition.
During the 2023-2024 and 2025-2026 school years, I played with Wheaton's chapel band several times a week while classes were in session. Our main purpose was to lead the 2000+ student body in worship during M/W/F mandatory chapel times.
2025-2026 Chapel Band on the steps of Edman Chapel
Being on this band was life-giving every single week. Researsals were efficient and gracious. Above all, my teammates ensured that my soul was cared for. Biweekly coaching sessions with professional musicians ensured that we had a cohesive sound.
2024-2025 Chapel Band in Front of Armerding Concert Hall
I experienced exponential musical growth through constant practice and performance experience with some of the greatest functional musicians I've ever met. Classical and rock musicians can join hands through CCM and traditional gospel music to create an entirely new soundscape.
2023-2024 Chapel Band
Jesus Smabes added the spice to my musical life as a Wheaton Student. We played a variety of alternative rock and pop covers including songs by Weezer, Creed, Green Day, Nirvana, and others.
Caden at Jesus Smabes' "Behind Bars" Concert
Jesus Smabes could adapt to the popular "crunchy" folksy music culture at Wheaton as well. This acoustic set on the steps of Williston Hall was a joy to perform. Click here for a quick (and windy) video of my acoustic guitar solo.
Jesus Smabes at the annual Traber 5 "Root Beer Kegger"
Rocking out with Jesus Smabes developed me musically by requiring me to learn fast guitar riffs and a maintain a bold stage presence that engaged listeners.
Jesus Smabes "Goes Folk"
I would be remiss not to mention the challenging kickstart to my musical career at Wheaton: The Green Mill Jazz Combo. This ensemble was my first deep exposure to jazz music theory and improvisation. It gave me the tools to approach future ensembles with confidence.
Click here to watch one of my first full-length jazz solos on a tune called West Coast Blues (starting around 1:35).
In addition to the few "official" musical groups I've been a part of, I play at church gatherings, private events, talent shows, backyard parties, jam sessions, and anywhere I can bring the joy of the Lord to a musical space. Click here to check out another side of my musical portfolio: production!
